HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER PLANTS: Mini Scale

CONNUSA has completed Pre-feasibility Studies of many river systems for potential mini hydro power plant developments, mainly in Sumatra, Indonesia. The studies required the determination of existing irrigation system developments, collection of data on Topographic Surveys, Geological Surveys, Hydrological Surveys, and also preliminary grid connection analyses.

Considerable interest and emphasis is being aimed at the development of Mini Hydro-Electric Plants for the following reasons:

• The need to bring economical electricity to areas not connected to the national transmission system
• The need to replace old and expensive to run diesel generating plant, and
• The ability to develop without the need for external funding

Specific schemes identified included:

• Amai Mini Hydro Power Plant: 1.1 MW
• Tatui Mini Hydro Power Plant : 1.2 MW
• Prafi Mini Hydro Power Plant: 1.6 MW
• Santong Mini Hydro Power Plant: 0.8 MW
• Santong Mini Hydro Power Plant: 0.8 MW
• Merasap Mini Hydro Power: 1.5 MW
• Mongango Mini Hydro Power : 1.2 MW
• Lobong Mini Hydro Power Plant : 1.6 MW
• Ndungga Mini Hydro Power Plant: 1.9 MW

CONNUSA is now in the planning stage to provide Supervision of Construction and Commissioning for these plants; the full Scope of Services provided included:

• Audit of Contractor’s designs and drawings
• Audit of Contractor’s designs and drawings
• Monitoring of Implementation Schedule
• Inspection during manufacture and witnessing of factory tests
• Assistance in preparation of ‘as-installed’ drawings
• Review of Operation and maintenance Manuals
• Preparation of Project Completion Report.
