Detailed Engineering Design

These Detailed Engineering Designs involve both desk design engineering studies and field investigations. The purpose is to confirm the viability and suitability of a proposed scheme based on the findings and recommendations of appropriate earlier Feasibility Studies. The Detailed Engineering Design then go on to identify the parameters of the scheme sufficient for the purposes of preparing Bid Documents for International Bid purposes.

Typical activities associated with the above include:

  • Review and update as appropriate earlier relevant studies
  • Collect, collate and consolidate of all relevant data
  • Undertake any necessary additional field investigations
  • Undertake design studies to determine principal parameters for all equipment such as
    • Unit ratings and other characteristics
    • Number of units
    • Arrangement of units
  • Prepare conceptual drawings
  • Prepare preliminary designs including all necessary civil foundation and structural works and associated drawings
  • Review and update any previous Environmental Impact Assessment Studies
  • Develop mechanisms for Quality Assessment and Quality Control for the project implementation stage
  • Prepare “as-built” drawings
  • Produce a detailed Implementation Schedule
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Prepare and present Detailed Design Report with technical information presented in a manner readily to include in International Bid Documents.

For specific types of projects, such as transmission lines, hydro-electric and geothermal generation stations there are many other tasks, too numerous to mention here, that would be included in the Detailed Engineering Design Studies.
